Lebanon High School Parents,
We’re excited to announce that we will be adopting a new language arts curriculum for grades 9, 10, 11 and 12. The last HS English Language Arts adoption was approximately 6 years ago when we adopted “Springboard” from College Board. The new language arts adoption will be purchased this spring for a Sept. 2022 roll-out. We plan to use the new curriculum for the next 6 school years – through June 2028 – when we’ll start the ELA adoption process all over again as part of an on-going cycle.
Since early fall, the High School English Language Arts Curriculum Adoption Committee (see attached list of members) has been hard at work – meeting regularly – to research which product(s) might best serve the needs of our students, staff and community. Vendors/publishers were first vetted through the Oregon Dept. of Education to make sure they met certain non-negotiable criteria. 8 publishers made it through that rigorous process and onto ODE’s “approved” list, and the LHS ELA Adoption team studied all 8. After researching, the committee has narrowed their list down to 2 finalists …
- Mirrors & Windows: Connecting with Literature (from Carnegie Learning, Inc.)
- HMH Into Literature (from Houghton Mifflin Harcourt Publishing Company)
The good news is that both of these are great programs – so it’s hard to go wrong with either.
That being said … we’re now at the stage where we’d like to offer parents and community members the opportunity to give feedback on our two finalists.
Here are links to the presentations that each vendor made to Oregon educators via the Willamette ESD “caravan” process. These video presentations are each 40 min. in length followed by a 10 min. Q & A session.

SurveyMonkey – Feedback Opportunity:
Once you’ve reviewed these materials, we’d like to invite you to take a quick survey to share your feedback. Here is the link to that survey.
The deadline for survey submission is Thursday, March 31st, 12:00 pm. The LHS ELA Adoption Committee will meet shortly thereafter to review the parent/community feedback. From there, they will make their final recommendation, and that recommendation will go before the School Board at their meeting on April 14th.
Thank you for your time and helping to partner with us to bring the best educational experience we can to our students and to our community. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
